Fertility Grants in Canada

By Fertility Finder Editorial Team · Published May 12, 2024 · 9 min read

Many families in Canada struggle to afford the price of fertility treatments. A full round of IVF with medication can cost over $20k+, not a small sum to pay for many families. While it’s true that fertility grants in Canada are limited, there are valuable opportunities available that could significantly help manage these costs. If you meet the eligibility criteria, applying for these fertility grants can help reduce the costs of pursuing IVF, surrogacy, or other fertility treatments.

This post has been updated as of January 19, 2025 to reflect the latest grants available.

Provincial Government Programs

Beyond private grants, several provinces now offer direct government funding for fertility treatments. These are tax credits or subsidized cycles funded through provincial programs:

Other provinces (Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, NB, NL, PEI) also have programs — see our full provincial funding guide.

  • Compassionate medication

While not necessarily an IVF grant, some drug companies will provide ‘compassionate relief’ by providing medications free of charge, typically if it is your second or later round of IVF. Your clinic can reach out directly to the drug manufacturers to request compassionate relief. These are not well publicized, so it is definitely worth asking your fertility clinic to request compassionate relief if you are doing a second or third IVF cycle, using the same drugs.
